Preteam Parents
Welcome to the Preteam with the Rockshire Sharks!
We wanted to answer a few questions for everyone about preteam that frequently come up.
First, what is preteam? Preteam is a program where each child works with coaches who are on the regular team. They will grow in learning the strokes and stamina needed to complete a race an eventually “graduate” to the real team. Preteam is NOT meant to be a first-exposure to the water program. If preteamers grow to the point where they are making it across the pool with a legal stroke, they may get asked to practice with the swim team with 8 & under and compete in the 8 & under races.
When does preteam start? Monday, June 19
Do I need to stay at practice? Yes, all parents are required to be on deck in case of an emergency for preteam practices.
Do we need to buy a team suit? No, since the preteam is noncompetitive, no team suit needed.
Do we need to come for pictures? Yes, pictures are on June 8 at 5:30pm for preteam. There will also be a short(5-10 minute) preteam meeting for parents after pictures.
When does preteam end? It all ends with a minimeet on Sunday, July 23 in the morning. They will receive breakfast and awards as well. They are also encouraged to stay for and participate in the swimathon as well.
What days does preteam practice? Practice at the pool is on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesdays, preteam members will have the option to participate in kickboard races in the B meets. Our coach, Elisabeth Charles, will be coordinating the sign up for this. You must sign your child up for the kickboard races if you would like them to race. These races are fun and lighthearted and help the swimmers get into the spirit of the meet.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions. The preteam coaches are excited to work with all of the swimmers this year!
Best,
Kat and Patrick Hussmann, A Reps
